  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

  • Thank you @daceronine! If I remember I save in google cloud, I will have to stick a note to do it more often. Lamp is from life. Poses are from refs but I look at refs for a while and then try to do it myself and look it up if needed. Outfits and rest is from imagination Something went wrong while installing system so we will have to wipe everything again... pc works but something is wrong. We will wait till internet is done and I will save everything on cloud this time Threads came out in eu. It's been 3 days and I had more engagement than after half a year on instagram. It feels really nice I hope it stays this way A portrait of old dude. It's the same character I posted a while ago. Inspired by Bayard Wu work. At first I thought of him as a bear but I named him Fenrir and I think wolf suits him better. Eye gave me a bit of hard time but I think it is fine now. I focused on face and forgot about area below. The way I draw hair clashes with greying hair. I had the same problem while doing Lohse's white hair. Does it looks like it is greying here? I love how desaturated red looks blue there. I keep lying to myself that I will use different color scheme but It all comes down to this blue and yellowish one it is just flipped this time Have a great day!

I never implied any disrespect. I'm a professional myself.
I don't consider myself or any other professional or amateur artist deserving of any less respect just because we're not as far along in our work.
The journey alone is deserving of respect. We all impact each other in it. And I'm grateful for that.
Don't take things out of context.

I was just pointing out there were entries that seemed to have been valid even though they didn't follow the requirements and I was just confused about that.
Initially the main judges were meant to judge the winners once. This was changed to have 30 finalists judged by the cube brush staff. I don't see why that number couldn't have been increased considering that seemed to be a spot decision, not that you need to, I mean this is your contest.
I just think there could be a few things to learn for future contests, and not just for the contestants but for cubebrush as well so as to make the experience better for everyone.

@marc and to all of the other moderators, since there seems to be some misunderstandings and such about final submissions and what qualifies, is there any way or place we can make suggestions to improve the process next time? For example I think a thing that would be very helpful for next time is to have a "Final Submission" thread where everyone makes a post with their finished entry. It might be easier for everyone to catch errors that way.

@alemja feel free to make suggestions here, both Marc and we read the replies (and/or I can collect them at the end and pass them to him). Not sure if there will be enough suggestions to warrant a separate topic.

As to the "Final Submission" thread, it's a good idea, but it also could turn very tricky - the 2D category alone has 850 topics, even if only, say one fourth finished, that would still make for a veery long topic.

Cool thanks!
I see your point about a final submission thread but the current alternative is to look through all of those threads individually which seems even more tedious. I image it could also lead to some entries being accidentally missed. Other than a single thread, I'm not sure what a better alternative would be on a forum-like setting or what your forum platform is capable of. Maybe people just upload the beauty image to the final thread with a link to a post with the rest of their images to cut back on the number of images that need to load?

I would be interested in seeing other people chime in too. The Art War was an awesome experience and it would be great to see it be a regular thing, as I think the art community really needs something like this.

So, I'm not going to sit here and argue that anyone should be disrespected or given less respect because that shouldn't be. This contest was supposed to build each other up instead of people arguing about results or whatever may be, but misunderstandings do unfortunately happen.
It's our second big contest overall, one from our previous forums, so there are still things to address and learn from. If you have any other suggestions, please do present them!

There should be more challenges like this. It will help so many artists, more so .. rediscover their capabilities as well.

This is one of the challenges on cgsociety :

http://www.phantomworks.xyz

Maybe the next Artwar can be based on this process but much more automated.

There's a lot of things we can and will improve for sure - we want to implement a submission process within your contest topic where you get to "send in" your final. It would only accept the correct size so you can't mess it up and would flag your topic as "completed" or something letting us know the entry is valid for easy review. This would also make it so we wouldn't have to check the date and time of the last update to see if it was sent in on time.

We still need to go through each topic to check no funny business is going on but this would def save a ton of time and would give you guys better confirmation the thing is sent in and your work is done.

Just to be clear though, no entry was missed in the ArtWar! It took a while but every single topic was checked.

Only those who respected the submission rules 100% stand a chance at winning.

sorry @Acolet if you thought that i was starting to spread false suspicions, but to tell you honestly, that didnt even came to my mind and it is not my intention. I based my opinion from Malcom ( a moderator like you) when he said that it was indeed the size that disqualified @juan 's entry, thror. Common sense kicked in and i thought that if a size was the reason or lets just say there were some uncomplied requirements for it to be disqualified, then no entry with the same issue can never be qualified regardless, right?. Again im sorry if i caused any false suspicions. CHEERS!

Guys, it seems that I didn't have the chance to participate in this round, just because this forum compressed all my pics. My concept sheet is 1638*1638, I don't even have this resolution on my computer! My original size is 2048*2048 and 2048*3398. I just uploaded my work and then went to my vacation. Now I'm back and...
I know, it is to late to discuss it and to reconsider all, and probably it is my fault but I didn't even think that this situation is possible. I asked moderators to check my work because of rules in faq, and she/he kindly said that I'm ok, and that was 2 days before the contest end. =(
Why, God, why you punish me so strong?! It is sooo unfair Т_Т
Anyway, u're all cool and thanks for the possibility <3

yeah same happened to me initially, I ended up hosting some of my images offsite since they were being resized apparently at random.

Congrats to all the finalists. This inspired me to get even better!

@fio to be fair, you asked me if your character is fullbody enough, not about the size. I probably didn't notice the wrong size because there were a lot of last-minute questions that I needed to answer
Anyway, it would be impossible for moderators to go through every single topic and personally check if everyone submitted their entry as they should. You couldn't really expect us to do it.

However, your work was not disqualified because of the wrong size - there is an entry in top 30 whose images also got resized. The automatic resizing was taken into judges' consideration.

Yeah, right. Good to know =) Thank you.

Hi everyone! Don't forget to stop by the weekly challenge and vote !!!

Congrats to all the finalist, it was a great experience, a bit sad I didn't make it at least to the top 30 but it was fun
Waiting for the next contest now

Oh, so it was demanded for 3D artists to make concepts? Oooh...

OH BOY that was an awesome challenge, im sorry i missed it, but the winners are great
(im new to the forum btw so hi to y'all)

Congratulations to all 30 Artwarriors that made it.
The lineup looks so awesome and neat !!!
I feel honored to be among such talented artists, good luck to the next round Artwarriors  I want to thank also all the @cubebrush staff, that made the contest happen and @marc for creating such a great place for us to grow our art, share ideas and make new friends !!!
