  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

Outfits and rest is from imagination Something went wrong while installing system so we will have to wipe everything again... pc works but something is wrong. We will wait till internet is done and I will save everything on cloud this time Threads came out in eu. It's been 3 days and I had more engagement than after half a year on instagram. It feels really nice I hope it stays this way A portrait of old dude. It's the same character I posted a while ago. Inspired by Bayard Wu work. At first I thought of him as a bear but I named him Fenrir and I think wolf suits him better. Eye gave me a bit of hard time but I think it is fine now. I focused on face and forgot about area below. The way I draw hair clashes with greying hair. I had the same problem while doing Lohse's white hair. Does it looks like it is greying here? I love how desaturated red looks blue there. I keep lying to myself that I will use different color scheme but It all comes down to this blue and yellowish one it is just flipped this time Have a great day!

Hey guys, I had first planned to finish and submit this character for art war but I had to take a break for personal reasons and I ended up being unable to finish it in time. I'll just finish it for my own sake. I kept the original posts even though this is in a new category! So now i'm just looking for feedback and finishing it

Hi guys! I usually draw sci fi characters so I thought it was a great opportunity to get out of my comfort zone by making a fantasy one! Even though I love gritty and dark stuff I usually end up making very clean concepts and I want to push myself out of that.

The idea is a girl and her dog have been cursed and are slowly transforming into arachnid creatures. Her weapon works in two different ways: she can swing it like a kukri style blade or use it to grapple someone and eat his face. She and her dog can open their mouths very wide and let loose some big fangs and mandibles.
On the left is the sketch of the concept that i'm gonna polish up and on the right the original rough idea. Everything is subject to change, both are still very early and rough

Disclaimer: I'm from Montreal and I know Quebec residents aren't illegible to the contest. I don't mind if i'm not officially considered, I just want to do it for cause it's an awesome challenge!

creepy and very cool concept  Her open mouth looks awesom! It reminds me of a spider demon of inuyasha  I'm looking forward to see your improvement!

I love that you are doing this contest just for the practice of it and that you are tackling a different genre by doing fantasy instead of sci-fi. I am too. I don't think I have enough training or experience to win this year, so my goal is to learn a lot and beat myself by making my skills strong. Man, your concept is creepy! It's a shame she got cursed. I don't think her leg on the left looks right. It's a little too contorted, but I like the start of your mandibles sketches and how you started cleaning up the face on the sketch for the left. I look forward to seeing more.

Very creepy! I like the story concept, kind of tragic. Hopefully she discovers a way to remove the curse! The mandibles are awesome, though nothing else really says arachnid yet. I think her transformation might look more arachnid if she had more limbs starting to protrude from her torso, have a hard shell casing on parts of her body, or even a scorpion tail (those are arachnids too right?) Just a thought. Keep up the good work!

Thank you guys for the kind comments!

Thanks @armyerin1 for the critic! I tried fixing the leg up and I think it should make a bit more sense now.

@pamzilla I explored in a direction similar to what you proposed. The limbs are inspired by whip scoprions and would either always be there or come out of the back dead space style.

I've also had this idea that she has two ''stances'', the regular one where she looks threatening but more in a zombie/creepy fragile kind of way, and when she gets ready to attack she would put herself in a ''thread display'' posture with her mouth opening up and her back limbs coming out. I also thought that it would be cool if her lower jaw could split up vertically instead of having her mouth simply open very wide. Finally, I made her creepy arm longer for more creep factor and for serving as a third foot when she takes her threat display posture.

Also note that I like dark and creepy stuff so forget about her finding a way to get rid of the curse hehe

im so edgy

Hi guys! I want to have, next to the full character, two ''detail'' illustrations that show her neutral face versus her aggressive opened up one. I'm pretty much done and happy with the neutral face, but I am still exploring possibilities for how it would split up and what would come out of it.
Here's the neutral face and a few sketches. I'm gonna keep exploring and expanding on these ideas, there are so many possibilities!
(I know 1 and 2 look very similar, the difference is that in 1 she would drink the insides of her victims, just like a spider, and that in 2 she would drink their insides and then swallow what's left through a hole)

I restarted the main sketch from scratch to make her look more feral and creature-looking. I thought it was problematic for the character to be so reminiscent of a Japanese horror girl while the rest of the design is inspired by occidental fantasy. I think making her look more adult fixed the problem. It so happens I also like it more this way  Here's where it's at!

Here's a bit of progress, didn't get to work much on it today. Mostly fixed anatomical problems

29 days later

Aren't you working on it anymore :frowning: ?

Alright, so I took a 3 week break from this project and I've got some criticism from an ex-teacher, and he basically told me that my intent wasn't clear enough. It is true, I kind of went off-road and because I liked what I had made I settled for it. So I made a design brief with my intentions and here they are:

-creepy causasian girl mixed with a whip spider
-late teens/young adult (17 to 19 years old approximately)
-was made a living weapon by evil cultists who devote themselves to a spider god or something, so she has pieces of armor attached to her against her will (straps and nails going through her skin)
-medium armor, metallic parts + lots of leather, all of the body covered except for the head and the ''mutant'' parts.

As you can see, instead of inspiring myself from various arachnids, i'm going to take only the whip spider as a reference. My first intention was to make the character very young and I kind of lost that in my second iteration. I also really want her to feel like she's dangerous and even though she doesn't have a massive plate armor, she still has protection on most of her body. At first I wanted her to wear leather armor but ended up liking chain mail and leather straps better. I also gave her a name! She's Aryana. I thought it sounded cool and medieval, so here we go.

Anyways, here's the design for now! There are still a lot of things to refine and some to change, for example i'm not satisfied with the armor piece on the forearm. I also uploaded the naked anatomy base I made to build the armor over it. If you guys see any anatomical mistake that would really help me out!

Here's an image showing exactly what elements I took from whip spiders and how I tried integrating them to my design:

I'm a lot happier with this design! This really taught me why structuring my approach is important and i'm going to apply this in every future character design I make.

Thank you! I'm glad you said that cause it was the point  Though I just realized that I won't ever make it in time haha, I guess I should move this to another forum category then?

Well there is about 3-4 days left. If you work hard on the weekend you can still make it, at least try. You can move to another category whenever you want.

The front design is pretty much done and i'm finally happy with the design of the mandibles  i'm struggling with drawing the head in that very specific angle though, got to fix that before putting hair on top.
