Hi everyone! I'm Liam. I'm 23 years old and fairly new to art (besides drawing stick figures when I was younger). I bought art school as I'd love to be able to improve my art skills and maybe do it as a career one day. Criticism is more than welcome, as it will help be get better quicker!

Oh can anyone tell me how to edit my forum profile? I've already edited my profile on cubebrush but it seems to be different to the forum profile.

Thanks!

Day one - Digital pen control - any tips for drawing circles better would be appreciated!

¡Hi Liam! Welcome to Art School. I wish your journey is as fulfilling as you expect and it even goes beyond expectation. I’ll be around if you have any questions or just share some tips.

About the profile: I just went to Profile (upper right corner where your image is displayed) made changes and scrolled down. Then hit save.

There is a tab named Forum Profile but it takes you to additional info on your forum interactions. Let me know if this is the info you needed.

Cheers!

Great work Liam! Keep at it. If this is your first day and try, you're doing great.

Question: What type of tablet are you using?
Also, If your using Photoshop a tip I like to use is to rotate the Canvas to find the right angle for my strokes. You can rotate the Canvas with R, draw, and then hit Escape to go back to the default. Try finding the angles you feel more comfortable, just like you would in a sheet of paper. It takes a little practice but is very rewarding. Also, I use shoulder and arm movements. I try to restrict wrist movements for when I'm detailing.

For straighter lines and circles I like to use 'ghosted lines' combined with rotating the canvas. From what I’ve gathered about 'ghosted lines' is to try to find the starting and ending points, practice the stroke without marking the line and then, when you feel confident, draw the line in a single and fast move to avoid scratching or wobbly lines. Again it takes a bit of practice and I’m by no means an expert.

I hope this helps, let me know if I can help you further.

Have a great day Liam. ¡Pura Vida!

Thanks! I appreciate it!

With the profile - I've already done that and the changes are visible on the cubebrush marketplace but not on the forums. Don't know why haha

Thanks though!

Thanks! I'm using a wacom one

Cheers for the tips! they're much appreciated! i'll definetly try ghosting my lines and rotating in the future!

Ill try help you where I can haha

Day two:
Just tried to have a go at the nude figure drawing. Feedback is welcome! Cheers

Hi Liam! Welcome to the forums! Many of us here have started recently so you are in good company. I look forward to seeing your progress!

Cheers! I had a look at your journey and it's really impressive! You've definitely given me lots of inspiration to get better at art

Welcome to the forums

I think what would help improve your figures pretty quickly is to place your pelvis and rib cage closer together. Especially when there is a pinch one side, the corners of the rib cage and pelvis can actually get very close together on the pinching side. Sometimes, like in the top right drawing, it seems like you drew the rib cage a bit too small which makes them seem further apart.

I would also recommend this video to help your twisting forms (from Proko's figure drawing course).

Finally, if you haven't already, I would recommend starting gesture drawing with 30 second to 2 minute poses!

That's all for me, but great work so far. Keep it up!

Hey mate! Thanks a bunch for taking the time to write some feedback, I really appreciate it!
I'll definitely take the advice on board and watch the video and do some gesture drawing, cheers

Have a good one!

Nice work! I found this video very helpful when upgrading my hips!

Then I did this exercise like 5 times which I feel helpled.

Hopefully this is of some use! Let me know if it doesnt make sense.

14 days later

Awesome perspective practice! Great work keep it up!
