- Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?in24.3k
- Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with youin1.4k

- Thank you @daceronine! If I remember I save in google cloud, I will have to stick a note to do it more often. Lamp is from life. Poses are from refs but I look at refs for a while and then try to do it myself and look it up if needed. Outfits and rest is from imagination Something went wrong while installing system so we will have to wipe everything again... pc works but something is wrong. We will wait till internet is done and I will save everything on cloud this time Threads came out in eu. It's been 3 days and I had more engagement than after half a year on instagram. It feels really nice I hope it stays this way A portrait of old dude. It's the same character I posted a while ago. Inspired by Bayard Wu work. At first I thought of him as a bear but I named him Fenrir and I think wolf suits him better. Eye gave me a bit of hard time but I think it is fine now. I focused on face and forgot about area below. The way I draw hair clashes with greying hair. I had the same problem while doing Lohse's white hair. Does it looks like it is greying here? I love how desaturated red looks blue there. I keep lying to myself that I will use different color scheme but It all comes down to this blue and yellowish one it is just flipped this time Have a great day!in48.3k

At the start of the month Marc posted a video with a 30-day art challenge, I waited until I was done to update my journey so here is the whole page with the results, the skull on day 30 is what I consider my first official drawing on digital.
I haven't done a lot of perspective drawings but I do get the idea, I'm ready to move on to term 2 where I'll focus a lot more on the perspective assignments, I have done figure drawing every day for a good chunk of the past month, I've done these on paper and pencil since I am more comfortable with that medium

To end this month's update, I had to backtrack a lot when I was attempting the photoshop 2 assignments and found out that krita is still on the early stages of vector images, I love the program but I had to switch to photoshop and its a lot smoother, took a while to go over the lessons again and get used to it but I shouldn't have any problems relating to software from now on.
here are my results, I don't think I fully understand how to use the smudge tool but it worked a lot better when using the brush Marc made, I'm practicing blending colors on the daily so hopefully things work out
I think that's all the big milestones for this month, I think I'm ready to move on since I think I understand the concepts in term 1, even though I'm not super confident about it, figure drawing was intimidating and I do it every day now, 'till next time!

Another month down, this one was a bit slow as I fell into a bit of a block/depressive state for a good couple of weeks, I'm ready to go on but before that, last thing I did was start the Draw a Box program which someone on the discord had pinned, the program is free and if anyone is interested I can't recommend it enough, as it goes a little more in depth on the fundamentals and some unspoken things that artists kind of forget or don't really do because they've been doing art for a long time, and I know that because no one talked about "ghosting" and it was sort of a new concept to me, even if very simple
here's the site for whom it may concern
https://drawabox.com/
and here's my homework for the first "lesson" to see what you'd be getting into
https://imgur.com/a/OrsvI4G
I'll be coming back to Mark's program after finishing this since the draw a box lessons are specifically made to strengthen one's fundamentals and getting checked every step of the way, its also not a complete program and its perfect for a fledgling like me trying to make sense of the most basic concepts.
Here's a doodle I done did, I'll be back next month with hopefully, more progress
Quick edit, forgot to mention that I've been doing warmups and strict practice every day for so long, I found it very hard to draw just for the fun of it, always remember to take a whole day if need be, to split study and casual doodling evenly, we should be doing this for the love of art at the end of the day after all.
Yo welcome aboard! Keep up the practice!
I completely agree with what you say about the fun. Art should definitely be fun or expressive (like when you’re sad or angry or happy or in love, draw it out)
Also, you definitely have to be careful not to burn out. You need motivation, both internal (better) or external (pretty powerful, but can become a dependance)
What I do a lot is either give the assignment some kind of twist of my own or, what I most frequently do, push myself a bit beyond the assignment - probably not the best idea as you should really be focusing on the fundamental that is being thought at the moment
Anyways, in the end, the more you consciously apply fundamentals, even if it sucks at first, they have a weird magical way to get in your head, until you can use them unconsciously, it’s like they just click. That’s how I see it, so just enjoy the journey and share away. Feedback from community is very helpful
Cheers!

New year new uh... Whatever last year was, it felt both short and long as I'm still thinking its 2021.
I did the 250 box challenge on draw a box and I'm still waiting on that to be reviewed, can't blame them since I'm on that poor track and not a patron or anything and there are LOTS of submissions every day, so while that's being processed I went looking for art books again.
I forget what the circumstances for this find where but I found this book by another Mark called "you can draw in 30 days" here is a link to the online pdf library I got it from, there are tons of other books there in pdf form, I wish I had known about this earlier
The book has a similar structure to our Marc's 30-day drawing challenge and it goes a little bit more in depth and has some more examples for those of us who need a bit more guidance, I can do scrolls now thanks to this book, still struggling with shading though.
I don't think I did much of note this month other than trying to get some more practice on fundamentals, the end of the book I'm going through does end with drawing the human face so I will use that as a jumping off point to go back to ART school and anatomy 1, I'll be back next month and I'll leave with some doodles I posted on my socials, apologies for the quality since I took pictures with my phone and didn't scan them.
Happy New Year!

Another Month has gone by, I doubt myself constantly and I'm starting to lose focus on why I even wanted to learn art in the first place, but that's okay because I've got Art Quest, a neat little series of short books that work kind of like DnD and help you build habits and improve art in a fun way, I've also been watching The Secret City, which is a show from the late 80's teaching kids how to draw, someone was kind enough to upload their recordings on youtube and I throw it up and try to draw along as best I can, I have a few other books all from Mark Kistler and I'm hoping to go through them eventually.
Here is most of the things I've drawn for the month, I also have a little notebook thing that I can fit in my pocked if I go anywhere and draw on the fly.
I've kept up with the schedule for the yearly paln Marc released, this month I'm looking forward to start my studies on the human head and hopefully get back at drawing human characters, I guess I've grown too self concious about my skills despite trying my best when I first started out, its not like I hate to draw or anything its just I don't have the confidence to truly draw the things I want and hopefully I can work on that as time goes on, thanks for keeping up with/checking on me and remember to draw 20-30 minutes a day!
Or hours if you're in this course, we're going pro eventually right?
