Logan - Art School Journey

Hi!

My name's Logan, I'm 23 and have absolutely NO art experience. I wouldn't even consider myself that much of a creative person, but I want to work in game development, and eventually, I had to bite the bullet, so here I am! I expect stuff to be pretty not great for a while, but I'm to really any constructive criticism!

First assignment, done! Only piece I'm really not too happy with is the Mei editing. Spent a while on this, but just could not figure out how to make the legs look okay while keeping the umbrella/clothes from getting blown out.

Welcome to the forums! You can't be great from the start, but the fact that you want to learn is already a lot.

Nice work! Mei is the hardest one to do. I spent a lot time on it and still got it wrong

Day 2 of Pen control. Managed to get significantly more lines in on section 2, so improvement there, and I think section 1 went a bit better.

Day 4! Skipped a day of posting, but man, spent a TON of time on the vertical lines. Worked on hand speed, so the lines turned out a bit straighter. Circles and gradients were ok, no real improvement there. I don't really know what to do to make those better lol.

I personally wouldn't worry too much about it. It's just mileage and muscle memory really. Unless your main objective is perfect straight lines, just do em for the practice and warm up and believe in the process. What I do think makes a big difference is ergonomy - working comfortably, being able to use your shoulder more than your wrist for things like lines and circles unless going for details, and having your tablet or canvas propped up rather than flat IMO helps a lot.
