Mood Board One
For now I will call the character the Red Sprite until they're more developed. Here are some drawn over silhouette ideas.
Now that I have a better idea of what character I want I collected more reference:
The Red Sprite is inspired by Toro Nagashi, a Japanese festival where thousands of lanterns are freed into the ocean to commemorate the souls of the dead and Jupiter, the Roman God of the Sky and Lightning, who ruled the heavens and negotiated sacrifices and offerings with kings.
The Red Sprite collects the wandering souls of lost heroes. He executes their tormented souls and lulls them into a peaceful afterlife.
The Clouds will be the Red Sprites domain; a source of comfort and power that will inspire his shape language. Here are some sketchbook ideas I had that could inspire the forms of his surroundings, armor, and hair.
Perhaps the Red Sprite sifts through the clouds with a censer in hand, providing him with an obscuring cover from enemies? Here are some general ideas for a censer overflowing with clouds/smoke.
